Went to a local builders meetup and watched everyone demo software on their phones
I stopped by a small GC gathering in Boise last Thursday, more of a beer and pizza thing, and I figured people would talk sports or jobs. Instead, every single person pulled out their phone and started walking through their project list on whatever app they use. One guy, Mark from a framing crew, showed me how he flags change orders right as they come in from the field, no more waiting until Friday to upload from his truck. Another foreman admitted he only checks his email once a day now because the software pushes everything to him, which blew my mind since I still chase down PDFs. It made me realize the real gap isnt the software itself, its how we treat it like a desk tool instead of something you use on a job site. Ive been managing 14 subs for 3 years on spreadsheets and paper logs, and watching them scroll through real time data made me feel ancient. Has anyone else made the switch from laptop only to phone first, and did it actually cut down on the back and forth? I keep hesitating because Im worried about screen size for drawing markups, but maybe thats dumb.
