Talked with a GC about takeoff software and it hit different
I had coffee with a GC last Tuesday who told me he still does all his takeoffs by hand on printed plans. He said he tried Procore once but hated it because it slowed him down. That got me thinking about how much time I spend learning new programs versus just getting the work done. He does 20+ projects a year with just a scale ruler and a highlighter. Made me wonder if we rely too much on software for things that worked fine before. Has anyone else run into old-school guys who make you question your whole workflow?

I gotta say "hit different" is a pretty new one for me. I'd probably say it just "hit home" though, that's more my speed. But yeah, I get what you mean.

Oh man, I gotta push back on this one. Hand takeoffs are just asking for mistakes that software catches instantly, especially when you're scaling things wrong or missing a wall. Plus you're burning hours that could go into actually selling the deal or finding new leads, not playing archaeologist with a highlighter.
