PSA: I ran a full project report in Buildertrend and it showed a negative budget for concrete

I was closing out a small addition job in Boise last week and ran the standard final cost report. The software said we were $2,400 under budget on the concrete line item, which was impossible because we poured exactly what was quoted. Turns out, I had entered the original budget as a negative number months ago by mistake when I was rushing. The report just ran with it, adding the actual cost to the negative budget, making it look like we saved money. I mean, it took me an hour to figure out where that ghost savings came from. Has anyone else had a weird data entry error throw off their whole financial picture like that?

Ugh, this is why my personal budget spreadsheet is a total mess.

...and that's exactly why I stopped trying to color-code my categories. Spent three hours one Sunday making it look like a rainbow and didn't even enter the numbers.

Heard about a guy who did that with his payroll.
