My foreman called out my digital takeoff at lunch yesterday
He said I was spending too much time clicking around in Bluebeam when a good old tape measure would have been faster on that weird corner lot. Made me wonder if I am leaning too hard on the software for simple stuff. Anyone else have an old timer call them out on using digital tools the wrong way?

Man that stings a bit, I can relate. Digital tools are great but they can really slow you down if you lean on them for every little thing. Old timers have a way of cutting through the noise and reminding us what really works in the field. I've been guilty of clicking around in software for five minutes when a quick manual check would have done the job in thirty seconds. Your foreman probably wasn't trying to be mean, just passing along hard earned wisdom. Sometimes you have to trust your hands and your eyes more than the screen.

Man that hits close to home. I had a superintendent do the same thing to me last spring when I was messing with some area calculation tool for a tiny corner patch. I felt stupid for not just pulling out the tape myself.
