Logged my 500th RFI in Procore today and just stared at the screen for a minute
Six years ago I was faxing change orders from a trailer in Bakersfield, so seeing that number pop up in a browser tab made me realize how much of this job moved from paper stacks to software, and honestly I am not sure if it is better or just faster, does anyone else miss the days when the answer to a question was a walk down the hall?
Wait, are we sure more RFIs means the system is working better? Because to me 500 RFIs sounds less like progress and more like nobody can get a straight answer anymore. Back in the fax days the form itself was a pain, so guys only sent one when they really had to, and a lot of stuff got solved with a quick walk to the foreman's trailer. Now it takes ten seconds to fire one off from your phone, so people do it for everything, and half the time the answer could have come from the guy standing next to them. So yeah, I miss the walk down the hall too, but the real thing we lost is that friction made people think before they asked.
