Heard a guy at the supply house say software just makes us lazy

I was picking up some pipe hangers yesterday and overheard a foreman telling his crew that all this new construction software just makes people forget how to do things by hand. He specifically said, 'You kids can't even read a tape measure without an app telling you the number.' I've been using a digital takeoff tool for about two years now, and my estimates are 30% faster with fewer errors. It doesn't replace knowing your stuff, it just handles the busywork so you can focus on the actual build. Has anyone else run into this kind of pushback from old-school guys on their own teams?

Just let your work speak for itself. They'll come around when they see your numbers are always right.

Exactly. It's the only way to win with some people. I had a manager who doubted every forecast. I just kept handing in perfect reports. After the third quarter where my projections hit the mark, the questions finally stopped. Consistent results shut down the noise.
