Had a talk with an old PM in Dallas that flipped my view on field reports

I was on site last Tuesday in Dallas and this old pro named Dave saw me fighting with our reporting software. He pulled me aside and said "son, you're tracking too much junk nobody reads." He showed me his system - just 3 key numbers per day plus one photo of the biggest problem. I cut my reporting time from 45 minutes down to 12 and the GC actually reads them now. Anybody else's field guys spending way too long on useless data entry?

Can't believe you were wasting 45 minutes a day on that kind of stuff. That's like a full work week every month just typing numbers nobody sees. So you really think three numbers and a photo is all the GC cares about?

@sandra715 From my own experience, the GC usually only glances at the photo to see if the job's clean and the numbers aren't ridiculous. So yeah, three numbers and a photo is probably all they care about, not the full breakdown.

Well, you're close but that math is a little off. 45 minutes a day for 5 days is 3 hours and 45 minutes a week, not a full 40 hour work week. I get what you're saying about it being a waste though. And yeah, honestly three numbers and a photo are probably more than most GCs actually look at, they just want proof it's done and not a mess.
