Sat through my uncle's 3 hour JFK rant on Thanksgiving and fact checked one claim, now he won't talk to me
Every holiday at my aunt's place in Modesto my uncle brings up the same moon landing and JFK stuff, and this year I finally pulled up the actual Warren Commission timeline on my phone to check one date he kept repeating. He went quiet, then said I was 'part of the problem' and spent the rest of the night in the garage, which honestly felt like a small win until my mom got mad at me. How do you all handle family members who treat debunking as a personal attack instead of just wanting the right facts?

My go to move at family dinners is just nodding along and changing the subject to pie, which works about as well as plugging a leak with a napkin. Last year I made the mistake of pointing out that my cousin's "gas prices under Trump" chart was missing a few years on the x axis, and I got called negative for the rest of the meal. The thing is, being right and being invited back for Christmas are two different hobbies. Your uncle hiding in the garage sounds like a win, but now you're the guy who ruined the mashed potatoes, so congrats on that. Facts are great until they cost you a dinner roll. Maybe next time just let him have the moon landing and save your phone for the football scores.
