My cousin's new theory about traffic lights is honestly kind of brilliant
I was at a family cookout over in Akron last weekend, and my cousin Mike, who works for the city, was going on about how the traffic light patterns downtown are rigged to make you hit every red. Not for traffic flow, he said, but to increase fuel use and wear on your car. He had this whole thing about how the timing changes every six months based on some secret deal with auto shops. I was laughing at first, but then he pointed out that the light at Main and Market, which used to be a quick green, now holds you for a full 90 seconds for no clear reason. It got me thinking about how we just accept these small, annoying systems without question. What's a local oddity in your area that feels a little too convenient for someone else's benefit?

That part about the timing changing every six months based on a secret deal is wild. Has your cousin ever mentioned who he thinks is actually pushing for those changes, like is it someone at the city or a group of business owners? It seems like a big claim that would need a lot of people to look the other way.
