Found out the moon is drifting away from Earth about 1.5 inches a year and I can't let it go
I was reading a NASA page last Tuesday while waiting on a crew to finish up, and it said the moon moves about 1.5 inches farther from Earth every year. I always figured it was locked in place, just orbiting forever, and now I keep picturing it slowly wandering off like a balloon on a string. What gets me is that this means the tides were way stronger millions of years ago, so the whole history we're told about early oceans and shorelines might be off in ways nobody talks about. Has anyone seen a good breakdown on what that drift means for the big eclipse predictions people keep tossing around?
