Dropped $60 on a moon landing photo book to win a debate with my coworker, and now I am the one with doubts
My coworker Dave keeps saying the Apollo missions were filmed in a studio, so I grabbed a used copy of the NASA photo archive book for about $60 on eBay to shut him up with the good shots. Thing is, the more I flipped through it, the more I noticed weird stuff like missing stars and shadows going the wrong way, and Dave just sat there smiling at me. Has anyone else bought something like this to win an argument and ended up on the losing side instead?
Bought a used copy of the Apollo 11 press kit years back for the same reason, to shut up a guy at work. What actually helped was reading the captions and mission notes instead of just staring at the pictures. The missing stars bugged me too until I read that the cameras used fast shutter speeds for the bright sunlit surface, so faint stars just did not show up. Shadows looking weird is usually just the ground being uneven and light bouncing off the lander. Flip to the back pages and read the photo details before you hand that book to Dave.
