Dropped $2,300 on a whole home surge protector after my neighbor's place fried in a storm, and I still think half you guys are wrong about them
Everyone in the neighborhood forum swears these things are snake oil, but after the July storm in Plano took out my neighbor's fridge, AC, and garage opener, I paid $2,300 to have one put on my panel. Two more storms since then and my stuff is fine, though I can't prove the box did it and not dumb luck. What gets me is the same folks calling it a scam are the ones running $50 power strips from the hardware store and calling that protection. Has anyone here actually had a surge unit fail or save them, or is it all just guessing either way?
