Warning: That guy who said faster internet fixes lag was dead wrong

My buddy Mark swore upgrading to gigabit fiber would stop all my stuttering in Elden Ring co-op. I spent $80 a month extra for three months and nothing changed. Turns out it was my old router dropping packets, not the internet speed. Finally swapped it for a $50 TP-Link and the difference was night and day. Anyone else get burned by blaming the wrong thing for your connection issues?

Honestly, I get what you're saying but I think you're kinda missing the point. Faster internet can fix lag if the lag is coming from your connection being too slow, like if you're on DSL or something and your speeds can't keep up with modern games. The issue is people blame speed for everything when it's usually something else like ping, packet loss, or hardware. Your story proves that, but it doesn't mean speed never helps. If someone's on a 10mbps plan and their whole family is streaming 4k, a gigabit upgrade could be the fix.

So you're saying faster internet can help if your base speed is trash, but doesn't that kind of prove the original point is still mostly right? Everyone jumps to "buy more speed" without checking if their router is a potato or if their ping is 200ms because they're on wifi in the basement. Your 10mbps example makes sense on paper, but how many people actually have that these days? Most lag issues I've seen are from bufferbloat, bad hardware, or wifi interference, not raw speed.
