Spent $80 on a used Xbox controller for PC gaming and it died after 2 weeks

I picked up a used Xbox Series X controller from a random seller on Facebook Marketplace for $80. Thought I was getting a deal since new ones are like $60-$70, but this one had that fancy custom paint job. First week it worked fine for Halo and some Rocket League, then the left stick started drifting like crazy. Tried cleaning it with compressed air and that did nothing. Now it's a paperweight and I'm stuck using my old PS4 controller with a janky adapter. Anyone else get burned buying used controllers online?

Yo did you check if it was a fake? I bought a "custom painted" Xbone controller off OfferUp once for $50 and it turned out to be a cheap knockoff with a real Xbox shell slapped on top. The left bumper broke off after three days of Fortnite. Now I just buy from Gamestop so I can get a warranty cause this stuff is wild. That $80 deal stings, man.

Wait, @johnson.lee, does that mean I gotta start checking serial numbers at garage sales now too? I once bought a "rare limited edition" controller at a flea market that turned out to be a MadCatz with a sticker slapped on it. The analog stick fell off mid-match in Halo and I swear I heard the seller laughing from across the aisle. Your OfferUp story hits close to home man, I still get a little twitchy whenever a deal sounds too good. At least Gamestop's warranty means I can break stuff worry free, which is basically a requirement for me at this point.
