My buddy swore I didnt need to season a new carbon steel pan
He said just cook some bacon in it and itll be fine. So I did that and the first omelette I made stuck so bad I had to chisel it off with a spatula. Took me like 3 more rounds of oven seasoning and a lot of swearing before it finally got decent. Has anyone else had a friend give you some shortcut kitchen advice that backfired hard?

Did you read that article about carbon steel needing a factory layer burned off first?

@ninas70 you're totally right, that factory layer thing is real. I messed up my first carbon steel pan because I didn't burn it off first. Just scrubbed it with soap like a dummy and started cooking eggs. Huge mistake, everything stuck and got that weird metallic taste. Finally found a guide online that said to heat it dry until it smokes real bad, then let it cool, scrub with salt, and start seasoning from scratch. Took me like three tries but now it's my go to pan for searing steak and flipping pancakes.
