Finally got my first perfect drift in Mario Kart 8 after 50 tries

I was sitting on my couch last night playing Mario Kart 8 on the Switch and kept messing up the drift boosts on Bowser's Castle. My kid was watching and laughing every time I slid into a wall. On try 51 I finally held the drift just right through that tight S-turn and got a purple spark boost that shot me past three CPU racers. It felt way better than I expected, has anyone else had a random small win like that in a game they've played forever?

Jumped right into that feeling with Bowser's Castle myself last week. In my experience, those purple sparks come when you least expect them and right when you need a boost the most. Take this with a grain of salt, but I found that gently feathering the gas through the S-turn helped me keep the drift tight without overshooting. Your mileage may vary, but once you nail that timing once, it starts clicking more often.

Is it really that serious though? I mean, it's just purple sparks in a video game. I've hit plenty of boosts in Bowser's Castle without overthinking the timing and they worked fine. Feels like people put too much pressure on themselves trying to "nail" something that's supposed to be fun. Sure, feathering the gas can help, but if you miss a boost it's not the end of the world. You just try again next lap.
