Am I the only one who played shooters wrong for like 10 years?

I was big into Call of Duty and Halo back in high school, always playing on default sensitivity and just using whatever gun felt okay. Then last month a buddy watched me play and said 'dude, you're never using the right stick to adjust aim, you just move and hope.' He showed me how to fine-tune my aim with small stick movements instead of strafing into every shot. I tried cranking my sensitivity up and practicing in a private match for 20 minutes and my kill count doubled. All those years of blaming my controller or lag.. it was just me ignoring basic settings. Has anyone else had a similar moment where you realized you were skipping a core mechanic for ages?

Oh man, this hits way too close to home. I did the exact same thing for years in Battlefield, just strafing left and right hoping bullets would magically land. Turns out I had my vertical sensitivity maxed and horizontal at like 2, so I could look up fast but couldn't track anything sideways. One day I just reset everything to default and actually watched a 5 minute YouTube video on dead zones. My K/D went from negative to positive in like a week. It's wild how we just blame the game instead of checking the settings menu once.

Is it just me or does that whole "blame everything else first" thing apply to pretty much everything in life too, @nancys90?
