Update: Got into it with a contractor over broom finish timing on a job in Tacoma last week

We were pouring a small warehouse floor, about 4000 square feet, and I wanted to start the broom finish as soon as the bleed water was gone. The foreman insisted we wait another hour, saying it would prevent tearing. I went with his call, but the finish ended up a bit too stiff and didn't grab the broom like I wanted. Has anyone else had a job where waiting too long messed up the texture?

Ever try the boot test before you start brooming? I'll press my heel down, and if it leaves a clear print about a quarter inch deep, that's my go time. Waiting for all the sheen to go away can already be too late on some mixes. That extra hour he wanted probably let the cream set up too much, so your broom just skated over the top instead of biting in.

Boot test is a total game changer for timing.

Ever had that happen on a slab pour?
