The day a squirrel stole my magnesium float

Working a small patio job in Portland last fall. Had my tools laid out on a tarp, turned my back for maybe a minute. Heard a weird scraping sound. This big, fat squirrel had grabbed my 14-inch magnesium float and was trying to drag it up a tree. The thing was almost as big as him. He got it about four feet up before it slipped and clattered down. Scared the heck out of both of us. My helper was laughing so hard he almost fell into the fresh pour. We had to chase the little guy off twice more. Never seen anything like it. Anyone else have wildlife try to run off with their gear?

Oh man, I read a story once about raccoons constantly stealing work gloves from a jobsite. They must think our stuff is just free treasure.

Was that a city squirrel or a country one? Those Portland ones are BOLD, I swear a crow once tried to fly off with my chalk line reel, had to chase it across the yard. Animals just see our stuff and think it's shiny new nest material.

Heard about a crow in Seattle stealing a knife from a picnic, troyjackson, so your chalk line story checks out.
