That 5-minute talk with an old-timer about curing blankets changed my whole setup

I was bitching to this guy Roy at the supply yard about how my slabs kept spider-cracking even after I did everything right. He just looked at me and said 'you're pulling the blanket off too early, leave it on for 7 full days minimum.' I always thought 3 days was enough because that's what my first boss told me. I tried it on the last driveway I did in Phoenix and the finish came out smooth with zero cracks for the first time in months. Has anyone else had a simple habit like that totally mess with your results?

Wait, you mean 3 days actually isn't enough? I gotta be honest, I was the same way for years. I always thought if the surface felt hard and looked dry after 2 or 3 days, you were good to go. But then I had a buddy show me a slab he left covered for a whole week and the difference was night and day. I guess my old boss was just rushing things and I never thought to question it. Now I won't even think about pulling the blanket off before day 6.

Damn right. I had the same issue with a wet cure setup. Roy knows his stuff.
