Serious question, why did everyone tell me to power trowel the whole driveway instead of hand finishing the edges first?

I tried power troweling right up to the forms on a 12x20 slab in Amarillo last month and the edges looked like hell. Hand floating the border first, then troweling the field, gave me a way cleaner finish in half the time.
