Rant: A guy in Phoenix showed me why you never skip the broom finish on a driveway
I was helping a buddy out on a residential pour last summer, just a basic driveway job. The homeowner, this older guy named Frank, kept telling us to just trowel it smooth and skip the broom finish to 'save time'. We argued it was a bad idea, but he was paying. Fast forward three months, my buddy gets a call. Frank's wife slipped on the wet, slick concrete after a monsoon rain and broke her wrist. Frank admitted he was wrong, but the damage was done. He ended up having to pay for a costly epoxy anti-slip coating over the whole thing. It wasn't about the money, it was about someone getting hurt over a skipped step. What's the dumbest corner-cutting request you've ever gotten from a client?
