Power trowel blade change disaster on a hot July pour in Tucson

We were finishing a 12,000 square foot warehouse slab in Tucson last July, and the mix was coming in hotter than we wanted. I switched over to new combination blades mid-pour because the old ones were leaving a swirl pattern that was eating my lunch. What I forgot was to match the blade pitch with the finisher speed I was running, so I ended up burning a section pretty bad, like a dark patch about 20 feet long. It took me and my guy Chris another hour to grind it down and re-broom that area just to make it look acceptable to the GC. Has anyone else dealt with that dark burn mark from running combo blades too fast on a fresh pour, or did I just screw up the pitch setting entirely?

Hold off on blaming the pitch, that heat was the real problem here.
