My boss insisted on a magnesium float for a 90-degree day in Sacramento, and I thought he was nuts.

I always thought a steel float was fine for hot weather, but that magnesium tool pulled the cream up way faster and saved the slab from crusting over. What's your go-to tool for a fast set in the heat?

Honestly see that everywhere, people sticking with what they know even when a better tool is right there. Took me forever to switch from a regular trowel to a fresno for big floors.

Yeah but @charlesj46, sometimes the old tool is actually better for the job. Like a regular trowel gives you way more control on tricky spots or smaller rooms. A fresno is great for big open floors, but it can be overkill. I see guys try to use them everywhere and then mess up the corners. You gotta match the tool to the specific task, not just grab the newest thing.

Read a thing about how some pros keep both in their truck for exactly that reason.
