Just blew $300 on a 'self-leveling' floor compound that was total junk
I had a small basement floor job in Akron last week and grabbed this stuff from a big box store. The bag said 'no mixing required' and 'perfectly flat finish'. It set up way too fast, like in 10 minutes, and left a weird, gritty texture. I had to grind it all out and start over with my usual brand. Has anyone else had a nightmare with these quick-fix products?

Feel your pain, that "no mix" stuff is a total scam. Sounds like it set up faster than my will to live on a Monday morning. They always promise the world on the bag and deliver a lumpy, gritty mess.

My buddy Steve tried that same brand last summer on his patio. He mixed three bags according to the instructions, and it hardened in the bucket before he could even pour it out. I had to help him chip it out with a cold chisel, @paul199. He was left with this rock solid lump and a half-finished project. The whole thing was a complete waste of time and money. It really does set up faster than they claim, leaving you no room to work.
