I have been finishing for 18 years and I laughed at the guys buying plastic finishing chairs. Sounded like a gimmick to sell gear to rookies, I said. Then last November we did a 40 degree pour outside of Rochester and my knees were shot by noon from kneeling in cold mud. The foreman handed me a plastic chair and I groaned. Two hours later I was still moving fast while the other guys were stiff and slow getting up and down. The plastic does not flex the same way, so you stay off your knees and your float strokes stay steady even when your hands are cold. I still use knee boards on big flat work, but for detail work and cold weather the chair earned a spot in my truck. Anybody else fighting the plastic chair thing, or am I late to a party that has been going on for years?
