Had to choose between a bull float and a fresno for a garage slab yesterday

I went with the bull float for the initial pass since the mix was wetter than usual. Saved me from fighting with the fresno dragging too much and ended up with a smooth finish after two passes. Anyone else have a preference between the two for residential work?

Gotta disagree a bit on the bull float being the first choice for wetter mixes. If the mix is really wet, a bull float can actually push too much water to the surface and cause the cream to separate, leading to a weak top later. Ive found a fresno works fine on wet stuff if you keep it tilted up and only do a light pass, then let it sit for the second one when it firms up. That whole dragging issue goes away if you don't push it flat. But hey, if your bull float gave you a smooth finish, more power to you... just watch out for that bleed water next time.

Yeah, that bleed water issue is real. A buddy of mine had a slab delaminate a few years back because he floated it too early and all the cream floated up. Fresno at an angle is the way to go for wet stuff, it keeps you from fighting the water all day.
