Burned my forearm on fresh concrete last Tuesday and found a weird fix
I was pouring a small patio slab in Phoenix and the sun heated my trowel handle so bad it blistered my arm through my glove. My buddy told me to wrap the handle in duct tape and soak it in water before use. Has anyone else tried keeping their tools wet to stop heat transfer during summer pours?

Ouch man, I feel that. I did basically the same thing last August in Tucson but on the back of my hand, still got a faint mark from it. The wet duct tape trick works pretty well but I found soaking a rag and wrapping it around the handle helps even more since it stays cool longer. Also if you have a leather glove that fits loose sometimes packing a little wet sand or mud between the glove and the handle buys you an extra hour before it gets hot. How long did that blister take to heal up for you?

That wet sand trick is genius, I wrapped my shovel handle in a wet bandana last July and it stayed cool for almost two hours even in direct sun. Did you let the mud dry on there or keep it damp all day?
