Big slab pour last Friday turned into a mess when the pump truck broke down
We had a 30 yard pour scheduled for a driveway in Oakville and the pump truck showed up 2 hours late with a bad hydraulic leak. By the time they got it fixed the mix was starting to set in the truck and we had to rush the whole thing. Ended up with a cold joint right down the middle and the homeowner is pissed. Anyone else had to deal with a delay like this and how did you handle the situation with the client?

Brought the homeowner out to see the cold joint before it even finished curing and straight up told them the truth about the pump truck breaking down. I offered them a 20% discount on the total bill upfront or a free reseal in six months to buy me some time to repour if they wanted. They picked the discount and signed a waiver acknowledging the joint, which saved my ass when they started complaining to their neighbors about it later.

Dude that's rough. My buddy had a similar nightmare with a pump truck last summer and the client ended up suing him for the joint. Had to eat the cost of a re-pour just to keep his reputation.
