Why does nobody talk about the old IDE ribbon cables anymore?

I used to spend 15 minutes just trying to get the master/slave jumpers right on those drives, but now with SATA it's just plug and go. Anyone else miss that specific kind of frustration, or is it just me?

My buddy tried to build his first PC back then. He spent two hours trying to get the ribbon cable in right side up, then another hour on the jumpers. He finally got it to post, but the hard drive was the slave when it needed to be master. The whole thing just refused to boot.
