Unpopular take: Used Dell Optiplex beats building from scratch for office PCs

I've put together maybe 30 of these little towers for small businesses and they just work. My last DIY build had a finicky motherboard that took 2 hours to troubleshoot, while a $200 Optiplex off eBay ran for 3 years without a hiccup. Anyone else find prebuilts undervalued for basic setups?

Oh come on, youre really gonna downplay three years of zero issues like that? Thats not bare minimum in my book, especially not for a used machine that cost pocket change. Sure, some of those older Dells have bad power supplies, but you gotta vet the seller and check the model year. How many DIY builds have you actually done, though? Because in my experience, even brand new parts can crap out within months if you get a bad batch. The real question is, what exactly counts as a "basic setup" to you?

Three years without a hiccup isn't really a flex, that's the bare minimum for any PC. You got lucky with that one, tons of those office hand-me-downs come with dying power supplies.
