Three hours on a DNS issue that should have taken 10 minutes
I was troubleshooting a client's network in Schaumburg yesterday, and their site kept timing out. Checked cables, swapped switches, even reinstalled drivers. Three hours later I realized their DNS server was set to 8.8.8.8 but the firewall was blocking port 53. Has anyone else had a simple config issue spiral into a half-day hunt?

Wait did you see that article someone posted about this exact thing last week? It was talking about how people keep making the same basic mistakes and its honestly frustrating to watch. @nathan_bailey you hit the nail on the head with that facepalm comment because its like theyre not even trying to learn from all the examples out there. I remember reading somewhere that most people just dont stop to think before they act and thats why things get so messy. Seriously though, every time I see this happen I just shake my head and wonder how some folks function in the real world.
