The day a printer actually made my week better

Last Wednesday I got a call about an old HP LaserJet 4050 that some law office said was finally dead. I expected the worst, honestly. Got there, opened it up, and it was just a jammed piece of paper and a worn out pickup roller. Swapped the roller in maybe 15 minutes, cleared the jam, and the thing printed a perfect test page. Made $80 for under half an hour of work. Anyone else have one of those rare jobs where everything just goes right?

Buddy of mine had a similar thing happen with this ancient Canon copier at a dentist's office. He shows up and the thing is making this godawful grinding noise. He's thinking it's gonna be a blown gear or a busted fuser (which is a pain, believe me). Popped the back panel off and a paperclip had somehow wedged itself against the drive shaft. Yanked it out with some tweezers, machine ran smooth as butter. Charged them $60 for the house call and was out in ten minutes. Must've been some assistant's bad day just trying to staple something near the copier.

That "ancient Canon copier" line hit home. I've pulled out paperclips, staples, even a half-eaten granola bar from inside machines that people swore was a major breakdown. If your buddy isn't already doing it, tell him to always check the back panel and paper trays first before cracking open the fuser unit.
