That one forum post about boot drives finally made me switch to SSDs for all my builds

I was reading a thread last week where a guy said he still uses spinning drives for OS installs to save cash. Someone replied with a story about a client whose HDD died after 4 years and lost everything. No backup. That hit me because I did the same thing for a small business setup back in 2019. Six machines on old drives. Took me 3 days to recover data after two failed. Now I put a 256GB SSD in every tower I touch, even the budget ones. Costs like $25 extra but saves everyone headaches. Anyone else seen a cheap HDD cause a bigger problem than it was worth?

Started swapping to SSDs for all my builds after a client's laptop died from a bad drive. That $20 saved on a hard drive cost them a grand in data recovery.

I get your point, but I've had HDDs last a decade without issues while seeing SSDs fail suddenly with no warning. The real lesson is to back stuff up regardless of the drive type.
