That $40 thermal paste I wish I never bought
Grabbed a no-name tube off Amazon for a CPU swap on an Optiplex 7040. Spread like cold butter and temps shot up to 95C under load. Had to redo the whole thing with Arctic MX-6 for $12. Anyone else get burned by bargain thermal compound from random sellers?

Spread like cold butter" is the perfect way to describe it, lol. I did the same thing with some mystery paste from a random eBay seller and my PC sounded like a jet engine trying to take off. That paste was basically just colored glue that dried into a crusty mess after a week. Had to scrape it off with a plastic spudger and my poor CPU looked like it went through a war zone. Arctic MX-6 saved the day for me too, those cheap tubes should come with a warning label.
