Picked a used $30 SATA cable over a new $15 one and it fixed my intermittent drive dropouts

I was fighting random disconnects for two weeks on my home server, swapped to a thicker shielded cable from a scrapped Dell, and the problem vanished, has anyone else had luck with older enterprise cables over cheap retail ones?

Did you check the pins on the drive itself too, or just swap cables and hope?

I spent three days blaming my hard drive before I figured out the cable was the real problem.

Three days though? That's a LONG time to stare at a computer. Come on, @faithjones, did you at least try the cable first thing or just go straight to panic mode?
