One customer's offhand comment changed how I handle data recovery quotes
Had a lady bring in a dead laptop last Tuesday, she was a school teacher. I quoted her $250 for the recovery and she got real quiet. Then she said, "That's groceries for my family for two weeks." Honestly it hit me hard. I've been doing this for 8 years and never once thought about what the bill means to someone who isn't a business. Now I always ask what's on the drive before I quote. If it's family photos or school work, I'll do it for cost of parts or offer a payment plan. Maybe it eats into my margins a bit, but I sleep better. Has anyone else adjusted their pricing after a moment like that?

That's groceries for my family for two weeks" hit me like a brick when I read that. I mean, damn. I've quoted prices without thinking about that side of things too, but that line just stops you cold. It's wild how easy it is to forget that $250 isn't the same number to everyone, you know? I bet that teacher will tell other people about you, though. That kind of thing spreads fast. Good on you for actually listening to her.
