I used to think a full reinstall was the only fix for a slow Windows machine

But after cleaning up a friend's laptop that took 5 minutes to boot, I found it was just a single startup program from 2018 hogging everything. Has anyone else had a simple fix beat a full wipe?

It's wild how often the biggest problem has the smallest cause. You see it with cars making noise from one loose bolt, or a sink leaking from a single worn washer. Exactly. People just don't look first. They panic and assume it's a huge deal. My old truck had a rattle for weeks. Thought the transmission was going. It was a single bracket under the seat. Five minute fix for something I was ready to sell over.
