Finally fixed a motherboard I wrote off 3 months ago

Had an old ASUS board sitting in a bin since last October with a dead RAM slot. Poked around with a multimeter last weekend and found a cracked trace near the DIMM connector. Ran a jumper wire and it booted first try. Anybody else hold onto dead boards way too long?

I saw some repair guy on YouTube talking about how old boards like that are actually easier to fix than new ones because the traces are bigger and more spaced out. Made me think maybe I should dig out some of my old dead boards from 2015 or so and give them another look. Honestly though, three years of hoarding sounds like a real collection, I've only got maybe two or three boards I haven't thrown out yet. I feel like the older stuff is worth saving just for the challenge, even if it's not practical.

Three months? Try three years. I've got a box of "maybe someday" boards that's basically a museum of my worst troubleshooting failures. Props for the jumper wire fix though, that takes actual patience I clearly don't have.
