Bought a fancy diagnostic tool kit that ended up gathering dust

Back in 2018, I dropped about $600 on a specialized diagnostic suite for a certain brand of laptops. It promised deep hardware scans and firmware fixes I couldn't do otherwise. Used it maybe three times on very specific models that came through the shop. For 99% of the repairs, my multimeter and a good screwdriver set did the job faster. The software license expired after a year, and the company wanted another $200 to renew it. Now it's just a box on my shelf. Anyone have a better use for an outdated diagnostic dongle, or should I just recycle it?

Oh man, that $600 price tag REALLY hurts to hear about. I have to ask though, was the company that sold you that suite upfront about the license expiring when you bought it, or did they hide that in the fine print? Because I've run into a few of those deals where they're REAL sneaky about the subscription model until AFTER you've already paid. It's such a dirty trick to sell a "lifetime" tool that actually needs annual payments. I swear these companies count on people not reading past the first page of the EULA. Did you try reaching out to them at all before it expired to see if they'd cut you a break?

That "software license expired after a year" thing is such a classic scam.
