Appreciation post: that old trick with a rubber band on a stuck drive

I had a client's Dell OptiPlex that wouldn't eject the DVD drive, just made that sad clicking noise. Tried the paperclip trick and it barely budged. Remembered an old tech I used to work with in Reno saying to wrap a thick rubber band around the tray lip and pull steady. Worked like a charm, popped right out after 10 seconds of gentle tension. Anyone else still use weird mechanical hacks like this or am I just old school?
