Am I the only one who watched a shop laptop go from 4 minute boot to 22 seconds without buying anything?
Customer brought in a Dell Latitude last Monday, said it took so long to boot she'd started making coffee while it loaded. I cracked it open and the thing was packed with dust bunnies the size of cotton balls and the CPU fan spun maybe one full turn before stalling. Blew it out with compressed air out back of the shop, replaced the crusty thermal paste, and swapped her old spinning drive for a cheap SSD I had in the parts bin. Boot time went from 3 minutes 50 seconds down to 22 seconds flat, and she sat there blinking at the login screen like I'd done a magic trick. She paid for the SSD and a cleanup, less than a hundred bucks all in, and texted me two days later saying her whole workday felt less awful. Has anyone here had a machine bounce back that hard from just a clean and a drive swap, or does it usually turn out something else was dying too?
