Am I the only one who hates seeing rats nests in server racks?
Went to a client's office downtown yesterday to swap out a dead power supply. Walked into their server room and it looked like a pile of spaghetti exploded. Cables everywhere, no labels, zip ties just hanging loose. I spent 20 minutes just tracing one line before I could even touch the PSU. How do you guys deal with clients who let their racks get this bad without losing your cool?

Spaghetti exploded" is the perfect way to describe it, man. I straight up tell them the next time I'm there I'm cutting every zip tie and labeling everything myself, and they can pay the bill for my time.

That "cutting every zip tie" line hits hard because it's the same attitude I see everywhere lately, like people just assume you'll clean up their mess for free. It's part of this bigger trend where nobody wants to take responsibility for the little things that make systems work, so someone else always has to come in and fix the chaos (and usually eat the cost). We've gotten so used to throwing stuff together and calling it done that we forget the next person's time is worth something too.
