Wrote off that cheap bail-out bottle as a gimmick for 5 years, then watched a guy in Port Arthur use one at 90 feet
Back in 2017 I watched an old diver in Port Arthur pull out one of those $40 spare air bottles and I laughed to myself, figured it was a toy for vacation snorkelers. Fast forward to a job last month on a dock in Galveston, my primary reg started free-flowing at 85 feet and my buddy was 40 feet away with his back turned. I grabbed the little pony bottle off my harness, got three good breaths, and made it to my buddy in maybe 20 seconds. It's not a real bailout plan for deep work, but for shallow harbor jobs under 100 feet it bought me the exact time I needed. My old mindset was that anything under $500 was junk, and that mindset almost cost me. Curious what you all run for shallow water backup, pony bottle, spare air, or nothing at all?

Man, that little bottle saved your butt and that's what counts. I ran a 6cf pony on a sling for years doing shallow dock work, never needed it but always felt better knowing it was there.
