Tried an old Poseidon reg after 5 years on Apeks, surprised myself

Picked up a beat-up Poseidon Cyclon from a guy in Norfolk for $80, mostly as a backup for my spare set, and ran it through the chamber last week. I figured the classic servo valve would feel mushy and fussy, but it actually breathed smoother underwater than my modern Apeks on a 90-foot dive in the bay. Has anyone else given an older reg a real chance on a working dive, or is the old school hype mostly nostalgia?

Heard a guy at the dive shop swear the Cyclon was the best reg ever made, said they just don't build em with that kind of precision anymore. I gotta say, there's something to it. The servo valve feels totally different, like it's reading your breath instead of just opening a door. I've seen folks tune up old Sherwoods and Scubapros that dive circles around stuff twice the price, so the nostalgia is real but so is the engineering. For $80, you basically stole a piece of history that still works. Maybe the real question is why we all moved away from that design in the first place.
