Tried a new drysuit underlayer against my old wool setup
Last month on a bridge job in Portland, I wore that fancy synthetic thermal base layer everyone talks about. My old go-to is just thick wool. The new stuff got soaked with sweat in the first hour and I was freezing by lunch. The wool, even when damp, kept me warm the whole six hour dive. It's not even close. Anyone still using wool or am I just old school?

Why mess with what works? Wool just gets it done.

Is there anything better than wool for staying warm when you're wet? I mean, I had the same thing happen with a fancy new layer last winter. It just trapped all the sweat against my skin and I was miserable. My old wool stuff feels damp sometimes but it never gets that cold, wet feeling. Maybe it's just me but I'm sticking with what works.
