Tried a drysuit with a pee valve on a 3 hour pier job in Baltimore and now I feel stupid for waiting this long
I always figured those valves were for the guys doing saturation work, not for some 3 hour inspection on pilings in the harbor. Last Tuesday the water was 44 degrees and I was in a rental suit, so I had to hold it from the moment we splashed until we climbed out at the end of the job. On the boat ride back I could barely stand up straight, and my back was killing me more from that than from the actual work. A guy on the crew, Marcus, has been diving 19 years and told me he calls his valve the best hundred bucks he ever spent because a full bladder makes you cold and clumsy fast. So for the guys running shorter commercial jobs, do you bother with one or just plan your fluid intake around the dive?
