Spent 6 hours on a simple hydraulic fitting because the manual had the wrong thread pitch listed (it said NPT, was actually BSP).

Ugh that's rough. But honestly, six hours? Couldn't you tell by just trying to thread it on?

Stripped a bolt on my lawnmower once. Took two weeks to find a helicoil.

Just trying to thread it on" is the whole problem! It ALMOST fits, so you force it. That's how you strip the threads and ruin BOTH parts.
