Overheard two young guys at the dock talking about 'rec diving' like it was a joke

I was coiling up my umbilical after a tank job in Port Angeles last Tuesday, and these two new guys, maybe 25, were laughing about some video of a guy doing a 60 foot wreck dive in a wetsuit. They called it 'rec diving' like it was below them, you know? It got me thinking about my first gig back in 1998, bolting anodes on a piling in 40 feet of murky water, and how scared I was. That little dive felt huge then, and now I do 150 foot inspections without a second thought, but I still remember the guy who showed me how to clear my mask without panicking. I don't think they'd make it through a week of that old school learning curve, where every mistake cost you a day's pay and a bruise. Has anyone else noticed the young guys treating shallow work like it's not real diving, or is it just me?
