Old diver on a Galveston dock asked why I check my gas myself
Was gearing up on a dock in Galveston last week and this older diver I'd never met asked why I kept checking my own gas mix when the tender already did it. I told him it was just habit from my first job. He laughed and told me about a 1988 job where his tender got the numbers crossed and he woke up in a chamber. I've done my own check every single dive since, so it was wild to hear someone say what I do is the right call instead of calling me paranoid. Anyone else still double check their own mix even when the tender's solid?
